This is a CORE training for MAEAP Technicians and will fulfill the water fundamentals and the Well closure training requirement. Intended audience is newer MAEAP technicians or other interested Conservation District Staff.

Introduction to Michigan’s Groundwater Resources Covers the occurrence, distribution, abundance and vulnerability of groundwater resources in Michigan. Overview of digital resources for characterizing local groundwater resources in preparation for a Farm*A*Syst visit.

Introduction to Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems Covers septic system types, system inspections and maintenance needs.

Well Construction Basics and Drinking Water Protection Overview of types of water wells, Michigan’s Well Construction Code, assessing wellhead susceptibility to contamination, water well testing

Michigan Water Withdrawal Assessment, Water Use Reporting and Conflict Resolution Programs Overview of the legal requirements for registering new or increased large quantity withdrawals (>= 70 gpm capacity, singular or combined on one contiguous ownership). Discusses the on-line Water Withdrawal Assessment Tool, which is the method required by Part 327, PA 451 for owners to assess and register their new or increased large quantity withdrawals (removal of water from surface water or groundwater for any purpose including irrigation for any purpose, livestock watering, etc. within the agricultural and green industry sectors) as well as water use reporting and water use conflict resolution.

**Technicians should bring their laptops (if available) and a copy of the FAS booklet with them to the training. We will share and work in small groups for laptops so it is not a concern if you do not have one. Entire training will occur indoors and lunch will be provided.**
